Hepatitis C - Fact Or Fiction

I have a very good friend who contracted Hepatitis C and lived with the disease for over 20 years. I am not sure that I even understood the disease and I am a physician. 80 % of people with Hepatitis C don't even have symptoms. The disease affects the liver and there can be significant damage by the time symptoms appear. The problem with this disease is the symptoms can come and go. The symptoms can be very mild and can be associated with the flu or a viral illness. The symptoms can last for weeks or months and because of the variability can often be missed.

One of the more common symptoms is nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or chronic fatigue.Chronic Hepatitis C can lead to cirrhosis, a disease which is more commonly associated with alcoholism.

So what types of symptoms should be concerned about?

If you have come in contact with a person who you know has Hepatitis C, you certainly should be concerned about unusual illnesses. If you think you might have been exposed to the disease and then get ill, you need to seek medical attention. The symptoms usually appear within five to twelve weeks of exposure. Nausea and vomiting for more than 2 days should concern you. If your skin or the whites of your eyes take on a yellowish tinge or your urine changes to a dark-brown color, you should seek medical attention.

There are a lot of books on the topic of Hepatitis C. I have information on my website about Hepatitis C.

You should know as much as possible about Hepatitis C if you or a loved one has the disease. The more knowledge you have of this common ailment, the better off you will be. Why do people take chances when there is help?

Obesity: A Disease With Deadly Complication

Despite a better perception regarding causes of obesity, the number of obese and overweight people is rising at an alarming rate. According to statistics presented at the 14th European Congress on Obesity, more than 300 million people worldwide are affected by obesity. Studies evaluate that obesity rates in Europe have risen 15 percent in the past ten years, while in Japan it has doubled since 1982.

The big concern among specialists is the astounding number of obese and overweight children. In the US for instance, the percentage of obese young population has tripled in the past 25 years.

Obesity is no more an aestetic problem. In some West Europe countries, up to 8 percent of total healthcare budget is related to obesity and its complications. In our days, the obese condition is tightly connected to a number of severe diseases such as diabetes, atherosclerosis and other significant health problems that are considerate causes of death.

The actual finding that excess weight is going epidemic leads to the conclusion that obesity must be recognized and treated as a disease with fatal complications. Most of the prevention efforts must target the young population because obese condition in children is close associated to certain high risks of developing heart disease, stroke and diabetes in later life.

Lupus Nephritis and Its Medications

One of the country's most usual medical circumstances is lupus which occurring to more Americans than cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, sickle-cell anemia, cystic fibrosis or AIDS. Up till now, the majority individuals don't understand what lupus is. Furthermore smaller numbers realize that half of all lupus patients grow kidney troubles.

Kidney damage from lupus might be gentle or harsh. It could bring about damage to the filtering parts of the kidney. Because these filtering parts clean up your blood of waste, damage to them could lead to your kidneys to run badly or not in any way. It is approximately 90 percent of lupus patients will suffer some kidney damage, however just two to three percent really grow kidney disease ruthless enough to need treatment.

Lupus nephritis or lupus glomerulonephritis are two medical terms for the kidney disease that happens in systemic lupus erythematosus. It is predictable that roughly one-third of people with lupus will build up nephritis that needs medical check up and treatment. Lupus nephritis is a significant and potentially critical symptom of lupus.

The medical term for kidney disease that takes place in SLE patients is lupus nephritis. By this disease, the minute filters in the kidneys are injured ensuing in a loss of kidney function. This can cause edema or fluid retention with weight gain and swelling. Puffiness in the legs, ankles and/or fingers is frequently the initial grievance of lupus nephritis patients. Except edema, there are so little signs or symptoms. Pain in the abdomen or back, or burning in urination don't be made by lupus nephritis.

Any distinct type of lupus nephritis takes various treatments obtainable that are effectual. Furthermore, the treatment for particular patients with lupus nephritis relies not merely on their own special type of kidney disease, other than on the way in which lupus is influencing other regions of their body, their total health, and their private wishes as well. In addition, medical check of circumstances that can additional damage the kidneys, for example elevated blood pressure and medication-induced kidney toxicity is important.

In spite of proper treatment, a number of patients with lupus nephritis will expand chronic kidney disease that can cause kidney failure. End stage kidney disease affected by lupus could be dealt with dialysis or a kidney transplant with the similar sort of success as kidney failure affected by other kinds of disease.

Generally, lupus nephritis is an effect of inflammation in the kidneys that is related with an overactive immune system. Accordingly, antibodies against the patient's own tissues create antibody-tissue unions that in order put in the kidney and instigate a detrimental inflammatory reaction.

Actually, it is so frequent that the harshness of the kidney disease equivalents the harshness of the immune abnormalities that could be evaluated in the blood of patients with lupus. Consequently, treatment typically engages medications that diminish inflammation and repress the immune system. However, when lupus nephritis cause kidney failure, dialysis or transplantation is essential to maintain life.

Arthritis Relief and a Diet

There has been a great deal of debate going on within the medical world and among health care professionals alike, about the affects of a good diet, how it helps with arthritis relief and alleviating the ailments. It has been knowledge for some time now, that a good diet affects gout, a certain type of arthritis condition, and is proven to help with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis relief as well. Nutrition and weight play a big factor when it comes to arthritis relief and an overall good diet helps to regulate the body. Being overweight will put more strain on the joints, which over time allows arthritis to wear out the joints and tissues surrounding them. Vitamins and minerals can help with arthritis relief by reducing the swelling of tissues and can provide relief from pain. Some foods such as walnuts and NutraSweet have the reverse affect for arthritis relief and can cause pain.

Breast Cancer - Another Obesity Victim

Obesity raises the risk of various types of cancer. And only 3% people know that obesity increases cancer risks. According to a recent research based on one million Americans conducted by the American cancer society, 14% of cancer deaths in men and 20% of cancer deaths in women occur due to Obesity. Scientists say that 90,000 deaths can be avoided in America if they take good care to maintain their body weight. Women are more likely to get cancer in their breasts, gallbladder, ovaries, colon and cervix while men get cancer in colon and rectum.

Breast cancer in women:

There are more than 200 different types of cancer, but together breast, lung, bowel and prostate cancer cover half of the cancer cases. Breast cancer is the most common cancer found in females. Overweight and obesity are the major causes of breast cancer.

Obesity and Breast cancer risk in females:

Obese women have higher amounts of estrogen in their body. Estrogen is mainly produced from the fatty tissues and more amount of fat in your body means you have higher chances of getting affected by breast cancer. Good nutrition, healthy living conditions and a fine environment may help girls to start puberty earlier in life and attain menopause later. Estrogen develops though out the fertility period. And better levels of estrogen in the body increases the risk of breast cancer in women.

Breast cancer in men:

Breast cancer is generally found in females but it is also seen in males. Recent research shows that breast cancer among males is also on the increase. And obesity is one of its main causes. In males too estrogen is responsible for breast cancer.

Obesity and breast cancer :

• Obesity affects both the development and progression of breast cancer.

• Post menopausal cancer risk is higher among obese women.

• Breast cancer mortality is higher in obese women.

• Body weight measured at different times during life also causes breast cancer.

Basic Extrinsic Asthma And Intrinsic Asthma

Over the years, the medical profession has developed several ways of classifying asthma and of distinguishing one form of the disease from another. Let's take a look at some of these classifications now. Traditionally, doctors have separated asthma into two general categories, extrinsic asthma and intrinsic asthma, depending upon the types of stimuli that trigger episodes of the disease.

What is extrinsic asthma?

Asthma triggered by allergies is known as extrinsic asthma. It is also called allergic or atopic asthma. In this form of the disease, an asthma attack is clearly linked to the body's response to something inhaled or, occasionally, ingested. Substances to which the person is allergic are called allergens.

What sorts of things can be allergens?

The most common allergens are tree and grass pollen, mold, animal dander and dust mites.

Who develops extrinsic asthma?

Asthma that develops in childhood is likely to be extrinsic. More than 90 percent of asthmatic children under age 16 have allergies, as do 70 percent of asthmatic people ages 16 to 30, according to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases . Symptoms of extrinsic asthma often vary seasonally and occur intermittently. In more than half the cases of extrinsic asthma, there is usually a personal or family history of other allergies, such as hay fever and skin conditions.

What is intrinsic asthma?

Asthma that develops in people over the age of 30 is usually intrinsic or nonallergic asthma. As the names imply, this asthma is not allergy related.

What is it related to?

It is related to triggers such as respiratory infections, exercise, stress, inhalation of chemical irritants (such as cleaning fluids or fresh paint) and air pollution. While doctors believe that extrinsic asthma is caused by an overactive immune system, they do not yet understand the origins of intrinsic asthma.

Is it important to know which form of asthma I have?

Insofar it helps you understand your disease and suggests a path for medical treatment, yes. However, you should be aware that most people with asthma have both forms. For example, it is very common for someone with the extrinsic form of the disease to experience asthma attacks when she has a cold or the flu - both intrinsic triggers. Extrinsic and intrinsic are two terms that attempt to describe the source and trigger of the asthma. Other types of asthma have been named after the particular situations in which they occur, such as nocturnal asthma, seasonal asthma and exercise-induced asthma.

Diabetes - Type 1

There are two types of diabetes: the type 1 diabetes and the type 2 diabetes. The first type of diabetes is less common than the first. The diabetes type 1 affects people who are younger, some in their teenage years. This happens because this diabetes type is mainly associated with the lack of insulin in ones body. The first signs of diabetes can be very mild or on the contrary very abrupt. It all depends on the person that suffers from diabetes.

The cause of type 1 diabetes is the islet cells of the pancreas. When your body starts to see one of your tissues as foreign, that is when this type of diabetes happens. This is a mistake of the immune system. In the case of diabetes, type 1, the cells that are seen as the enemy are the ones that produce insulin, the islet cells. The body then starts to fight against them, reducing their ability of producing insulin, thus leading to diabetes. The main cause for this
disorder that leads to diabetes is genetics. It can also be a result of a viral infection, measles, rubella, polio that can be the cause of diabetes. Some of the people may also have a genetical tendency to develop diabetes. For example, two people are infected with the same virus, but only one of them develops diabetes. This is because that person is more prone to diabetes than the other. There are some other causes for this type of diabetes, but they are very rare. One of the diabetes causes may be
an injury to the pancreas.

The best treatment for this diabetes type 1 is with shots of insulin. When you have diabetes, the insulin is injected under your skin, in the fat. This way it is absorbed into the blood and taken to all the cells of the body that need it. This diabetes treatment can not be taken in the from of a pill, because the juices found in our stomach would destroy it even before it would have a chance to work. At the moment there are no other methods for this diabetes treatment besides shots. Scientist are still working to find new ways of giving insulin to patients who have diabetes. Insulin pumps for diabetes are being tested at the moment, but there is nothing certain yet. Using insulin is the only diabetes treatment used in our days.

More About Eschemic Stroke

The main symptom of ischemic stroke is an immediate or sub-acute occurrence of neurological deficits following prodromal symptoms. This kind of stroke usually attacks when the patient wakes up in the morning or when the person has no physical activity.

Ischemic stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the brain is blocked and blood flow is stopped. The blockage may be from a blood clot. A clot that forms in artery is called a thrombus. A thrombus usually does not occur in healthy brain artery, but tends to form at or adjacent to an area of a vessel damaged by atherosclerosis. A stroke caused by thrombus in brain artery is called cerebral atherothrombosis or atherothrombotic stroke.

A clot that forms in the heart or a blood vessel leading to the brain is called an embolus. This vessel may be the carotid artery in the front of the brain or the vertebral or basilar artery in the back of the brain. A stroke caused by embolus is called an embolic stroke. An embolus tends to form in the heart because of some diseases, e.g. atrial fibrillation (irregular heart beat), atrial septal defect (small hole in the heart chamber wall), and acute myocardial infarction (heart attack). An embolus occurs in the carotid artery because the vessel was narrowed.

The third form of ischemic stroke is called a lacunar stroke. This stroke results from occlusion of arterioles (small arteries) that penetrate deep into the brain. The small size of the vessel sometime makes lacunar stroke more difficult to diagnose than two types above.

Lupus Disease And How To Live With It

Lupus is a complicated disease. It's autoimmune, which means that the body's tissues are attacked by its own immune system. It usually attacks germs and bacteria in the body, but with lupus, the immune system can't recognize the healthy from the infected tissue. This can cause inflammation in various parts of the body, so this means that the symptoms can vary a lot. Parts of the body commonly infected are knees, joints, kidneys, lungs, skin, the heart. Inflammation is the most common state of it and are usually pain, heat, redness and swelling. Usually not all body parts are affected, but two or three are common. You might suffer from reoccurring knee inflammation, kidney pain, redness and inflammatory skin. The Lupus Foundation Of America estimates about 1.5 million Americans suffer from it, but the actual sufferers are probably a lot more, since many are having less severe variations of the disease.

There are three main parts of lupus: first we have the Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. This is the most common one. Systemic means that it's the intestines that are attacked, like kidneys, lungs, heart and brain.

The other is Discoid Lupus Erythematosus, and that affects the skin. Red rash is common, or color change in the skin.

The third common variation is Drug-induced lupus, that comes with taking some medications. This state usually disappears when the medication is not taken anymore.

At present time, there is no cure for lupus. But there are many things you can do to minimize the symptoms, so that it gets easier to live with. The needs are very individual when it comes to treating lupus. Anti inflammatory drugs can help, if you are suffering from it in ligaments and skin. Usually you need to take a holistic approach to your disease and how to minimize it. This means that you could feel much better by changing several areas in your life, such as foods, exercising and rest.
