Alternative Treatment for Asthma

Asthma is a respiratory disorder characterized by abnormal lung condition in which accumulation of mucus in the lungs is found. Natural asthma remedies are the most preferred way of treating asthma since the conventional methods of treatment for asthma may have a lot of side effects.

Wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness are some of the symptoms caused by the narrowing or obstruction of the airways. Airway inflammation, a condition which makes the airways in the lungs turn red, swollen and narrow is one of the causes of narrowing or obstruction of the airways.

Herbal asthma aid is a natural product that is formulated with the medicinal herbs which is one of the most effective natural asthma remedies. Garlic, ginger and mustard are said to prevent the accumulation of mucus in the lungs and hence these are taken as natural asthma remedies. Herbs such as licorice have the tendency to expel the mucus from the lungs. This is used to clear the lung of mucus accumulation.

The ingredients of these products contain the herbs like Elecampane, Ginger, Garlic, Mustard and Licorice. The herbs mentioned above have medicinal properties that appose asthma symptoms. Licorice is an herb that clears the mucus accumulation from the lungs. If the patient is having high blood pressure he should not use licorice separately.

Before choosing any herbal remedy for asthma the patient has to consult a doctor to perform several diagnostic tests to confirm that he is having asthma. After the confirmation the patient can choose an herbal remedy for asthma in consultation with the doctor. The choice of the remedy depends on the condition of the patient.

Most of the people prefer an herbal remedy for asthma as it is known fact that they are more effective on a person without any side effects. It is the choice of a patient to choose an herbal remedy for asthma in consultation with a medical practitioner. They should consult a doctor before taking up any herbal remedy for asthma.

Another Type of Hepatitis: The Hepatitis C

This particular type of hepatitis is one of the most spread diseases in the world when hepatitis is concerned. Almost 200 million people all over the world suffer from hepatitis C. In countries that are not yet fully developed, hepatitis C can be spread during some medical procedures, through the contamination of the blood. However, most people develop hepatitis C because of drug use, intravenously. Another frightening thing about hepatitis C is that is the most common cause of the final stage in liver disease. This type of hepatitis is expected to affect many more people in the years to come, although there has been noticed a decrease in both mortality and developing of hepatitis C.

The most common way to get hepatitis C is through the exposure to contaminated blood or any blood products. In some countries, more than half of all hepatitis C cases come from the use of intravenous drugs. On the other hand, when cases of hepatitis C are talked about on a worldwide level, the primary cause of infection with hepatitis are medical procedures. Either is a blood transfusion with contaminated blood or a vaccine with contaminated needle, they all are causes of hepatitis C. Far more worse than this is that in some contries, the contamination with hepatitis C has been made through a national program which was actually trying to help people. There was a vaccination campain against schistomiasis, where the needels were reused, thus infecting many people with hepatitis C. A controversial case in either sex or prenatal transmission of hepatitis C are risk factors in the case of hepatitis. Studies have shown that the transmission of hepatitis C in these cases is not that big, but if hepatitis C is accompanied by another disease that is transmitted sexually, the risk of developing hepatitis is much greater.

Like all hepatitis cases, hepatitis C type has also an incubation period of about two months, after the person has been exposed to the hepatitis virus. Also, more than half of the hepatitis C infected persons will not develop any symptoms of hepatitis. However, if hepatitis symptoms do occur is some persons, they are very mild and non specific. Because of this, doctors can not diagnose hepatitis C in its acute state, and more than 90 percent of all hepatitis C acute patients will come to develop chronic infection.

An Introduction To Obesity

Obesity results when too much fat accumulates in the body. A person is normally considered obese when his or her weight is 20% over the normal body-weight for height and age and the Body Mass Index (BMI) measures 30 or more. Now recognized as a serious medical problem, obesity affects about 30% of adults, and about 14% of children and adolescents in the United States.

Obesity may be caused by a number of social, cultural, behavioral, physiological, metabolic, and genetic factors that are beyond the person’s control. Symptoms of obesity usually show up in the form of breathing trouble, excess accumulation of fat, insulin resistance, increase in size or number of fat cells, rise in blood pressure, high cholesterol levels and back pain.

A variety of treatments exist for obesity that includes diet and behavior therapy to medicine and surgery. The treatments usually depend on the levels of BMI, while others may be an individual choice. While diet therapy involves a prescribed diet and exercise plan, behavior therapy teaches new behaviors that promote weight loss. If a person’s condition demands so, a doctor may recommend a combination of both. For a person having a BMI of 40 or a BMI of 35 to 39.9 accompanied by serious medical problems, doctors usually recommend gastrointestinal surgery.

The old adage, ‘prevention is better than cure’ holds true in the case of obesity also. While many genetic factors that may cause obesity are beyond a person’s control, the other factors can be prevented through education, knowledge, a good diet, and exercise. If you teach your children healthy eating and exercise and make them aware of the dangers associated with obesity, it is highly likely that they will carry this knowledge and these behaviors into their adulthood and avoid obesity.

Alternative Asthma Management

If you suffer from asthma, many people will offer advice beyond that of your doctor' s advice on ways to treat your asthma. It might not be a good idea to accept every piece of advice given, because the advice might not work, leading to you experiencing an asthma attack. Some people even turn to alternative asthma as a way to help them decrease their asthma attacks. These alternative medications and practices are used in conjunction with the regular medication prescribed by your doctor. Even though these alternative asthma medication and practices are available, they should be approached with caution.

When trying new alternative ways to treat your asthma, it is suggested that you properly look into what reviews there might be about the product. If you are not looking for alternative medication, consider using an alternative practice to treat your asthma. Alternative practices for asthma include unorthodox treatments such as chiropody or acupuncture. Some people have found that regular chiropractic appointments have been one of the ways to help reduce their reduce the number of asthma attacks that have been occurring. You can venture online to see reviews and opinions from other people who have been helped by chiropractic treatments.

Another alternative practice for asthma involves the use of acupuncture. According to those who have used it, acupuncture was able to reduce the number of asthmatic attacks. This has not been fully approved by the local medical body in any city for treatment of asthma. So it is important to mainly continue with doctor prescribed medication, and add on other alternatives along with it.

All You Need to Know About Hepatitis C

The most fearsome of all types of hepatitis is the hepatitis C. This disease, hepatitis C has been considered by many specialists to be an epidemic. It is also known as a silent illness, because you can get hepatitis C for many years and not even know that. Studies have also shown that almost a third of chronic hepatits C patients will, at some point, suffer from symptoms that may threaten their lives.

Hepatitis C can be developed by infection with the hepatitis C virus, which at first was related to intravenous drugs or blood transfusions. Many years after the hepatitis C affected people, its extent was know for a fact. That happened when the first blood test for detecting the hepatitis C virus was available. Many studies have shown that in the first years of hepatitis C, more than a third of the patients developed cirrhosis and more than half even liver cancer. Hepatitis C is the main reason for liver transplants in many countries worldwide.

As many as 300 million of the world' s population suffer from hepatitis C nowadays. In the eastern part of Europe the number of people affected by hepatitis C seems to be more larger than of those that live in the western part of the continent. The hepatitis C virus is responsible for almost a half of cases of cirrhosis that end in the loss of the patient' s life and more than 70 percent of people suffering from chronic hepatitis. Studies have shown that for one person that has AIDS, there are almost five people infected with the hepatitis C virus.

In the years to come, hepatitis C will become a major health problem. It is estimated that almost 60 percent of patients who will suffer from hepatitis C virus will develop cirrhosis and the rate of deaths because of hepatitis will almost triple its number.

Nowadays, the treatment for hepatitis C is a pegylated interferon thepary. This hepatitis C treatmnent works in almost half of the patients. Natural remedies for hepatitis C exist, but many of them do not work. The hepatitis C natural remedies that are more reliable are those that focus on the protection of your liver and those that try to keep your immune system healthy. However, there does not exist a natural cure of the hepatitis C virus. Many of the natural remedies against hepatitis C virus are just fakes, sold by charlatans. Doctors have shown that if taking natural hepatitis C remedies you might live a long life, but there is absolutely no natural cure for hepatitis C virus.

Are You Suffering From Lupus?

David, 24 found out that his father has lupus. In his curiosity to know whether it could happen to him as well, he consulted as many doctors he knew.

One more question that arises in one's mind is that is lupus heredity, what are its risk factors, what are its types, its signs and symptoms. What is the relation between lupus and alopecia? Why is dialysis performed in some patients with lupus? What is Raynaud's phenomenon? What are the various criteria for lupus diagnosis? These and many more such questions are haunting several people around the globe.

To start with let us discuss what actually lupus is. Lupus can be recognized as the chronic inflammation of various tissues of the body caused because of autoimmune disease. People suffering from lupus produce abnormal antibodies that attack its own body tissues. That is the reason why lupus can cause a variety of diseases affecting heart, lungs, skin, kidneys, joints, and or nervous system. Disease affecting skin is known as discoid lupus whereas the disease affecting the internal organs is called systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

Now, pointing towards the causes of lupus, emphasis should be laid on the fact that absolute cause of this disease is yet unknown. Well there exist several assumptions and beliefs. To name a few inherited genes, viruses, ultra violet radiations are supposed to play some role in the development of lupus. Female hormones are vital in its development. Further, some researches prove that SLE may be initiated by mutation in genes causing disposal activities.

Alopecia is caused by the usually red, painless discoid lupus rashes. About 10 out of 100 of the patients with discoid lupus may develop SLE. The butterfly rash is a typical sign that suggests SLE. Well Raynaud's phenomenon is the poor circulation of the fingers and toes due to cold exposure. In SLE patients the risk of infection is elevated because of the decrease in the amount of white blood cells. Dialysis is necessary to perform in SLE patients suffering from kidney inflammation that causes proteinuria, fluid retention and sometimes kidney failure.

Four or more of the following signs suggests SLE. Butterfly rash, discoid rash, photosensitivity, mucus membrane ulcers, arthritis, pleuritis or pericarditis, casts in urine, brain irritation, abnormal blood count, immunological disorder and antinuclear antibody. SLE patients are treated with NSAIDS like aspirin and ibuprofen. Corticosteroids are also effective and more potent than NSAIDS.

Diabetes - A Growing American Problem

The following article on diabetes is appropriate for all, no matter what age.

Diabetes is a serious disease. But the startling truth is that diabetes is reversible. Diabetes is the number one cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD). This disease is a condition where the body is unable to automatically regulate blood glucose levels, resulting in too much glucose (a sugar) in the blood. Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects as many as 16 million Americans.

Diabetes is divided into two major groups. Type 1 diabetes is one of the most common childhood diseases. Type 1 Diabetes is called Juvenile Diabetes as the onset of it begins in childhood. Type 2 diabetes is most common form of diabetes, accounting for 90% of cases. They concluded that most cases of type 2 diabetes is preventable by choosing a healthier lifestyle. The problem, in a nutshell, is that type 2 diabetes is not a simple disease caused by a single gene. The best way to control type 2 diabetes is with diet and exercise.

There has been a great deal of buzz about stem cell research and diabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes is more common than Type 1 Diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is a life-long disease marked by high levels of sugar in the blood. Conditions associated with type 2 diabetes include hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia. Type 2 diabetes may account for about 90% to 95% of all diagnosed cases of diabetes. Up to two-thirds of people with type 2 diabetes have no symptoms. Obesity is the single most important risk factor for type 2 diabetes. An estimated 20% of all cases of new onset type 2 diabetes are in individuals between the ages of 9-19. The more you know about type 2 diabetes, the more you'll be able to take the right steps to take control of your condition.

What is the relationship between insulin resistance and diabetes. Insulin resistance can occur long before the onset of type 2 diabetes. Insulin resistance is an important marker of diabetes risk. You can counter insulin resistance through modest weight loss and exercise. It is now generally accepted that insulin resistance and ß-cell dysfunction are major factors involved in the development of diabetes. Some scientists think a defect in specific genes may cause insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes is a serious disease. Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness, renal failure, and amputation in the United States. Diabetes is divided into two major groups. Type 1 diabetes is one of the most common childhood diseases. Type 2 diabetes is most common form of diabetes, accounting for 90% of cases. Diabetes is a growing global problem of devastating social and economic impact. But the startling truth is that diabetes is reversible. The first step in managing diabetes is to commit yourself to the care of a health professional.

All About Hepatitis C

Hepatitis is the medical problem that appears when your liver is inflamed. This may happen because of a virus, but there are some other factors that can cause hepatitis as well. Alcohol, certain medication and even trauma can cause hepatitis. Hepatitis is not a life threatening condition and can be treated. However, there are cases when a certain virus that causes hepatitis can cause an infection which can last a very long time, known as chronic hepatitis. This infection can even lead to liver failure and even death.
Viral hepatitis is the hepatitis cause by a virus. There are four types of this kind of hepatitis: hepatitis A, the hepatitis B, C hepatitis and of course delta hepatitis. The most frightening of all these types of hepatitis is the hepatitis C. It is cause by a virus specific to hepatitis C. This hepatitis virus affects a large number of people every year. This condition is usually looked at as mild, however this type of hepatitis can very easily lead to chronic liver problems, unlike the hepatitis B type. Everyone that gets infected with the hepatitis virus can be chronic carriers of this virus. However, many of them will not even have hepatitis symptoms. Out of all the people that carry this hepatitis C virus, about seventy percent will go on to develop a chronic liver problem. It does not matter if they have any hepatitis symptoms or not.
Hepatitis C is usually spread by contact to human blood that has been contaminated with the hepatitis C virus. There is an astonishing number of people that are infected with the hepatitis C virus because of injection of drugs. People who have transfusions of blood are also at risk of infection with the hepatitis C virus. However, the risk is lowered now, because of a test that requires that the blood used for transfusions must be tested for the hepatitis C virus. This type of hepatitis virus can also be transmitted sexually and also between house members. However, it is believed that the risk of developing hepatitis C in these cases is low. You can not get the hepatitis C virus from food, water or by shaking somebody' s hand. There are symptoms that can tell you that you are suffering from hepatitis C, although a large number of hepatitis patients have no symptoms at all. fever, fatigue, dihareea, muscle aches are some of the hepatitis C symptoms.

Advanced Metastatic Prostate Cancer - What it Means and What Your Options Are

Prostate cancer can spread throughout the body through different means, but it tends to spread to bones rather than to other organs. Metastases means cancer spread, and with prostate cancer these can occur when the tumor is small. To determine whether the cancer has become an advanced metastatic cancer a bone scan is used. If it is found that the cancer has spread to the bone then the disease will be treated as an advanced metastatic disease, even if the tumor in the prostate itself is relatively small.

There are two different stages of prostate cancer spread (or metastases), denoted by:

M0 - The cancer has not yet spread outside the pelvic area
M1 - The cancer has spread outside the pelvic area

In the case of an advanced metastatic prostate cancer the M1 label is used.

In this scenario, it is considered unlikely that the cancer will be able to be cured. Once the cancer has spread to the bone, treatment for advanced metastatic cancer centres on slowing the cancers growth and reducing symptoms rather than a cure. Treatment also aims at prolonging life, and increasing its quality.

Possible treatments for advanced metastatic prostate cancer are that can slow the tumors growth are:

Radiotherapy
Hormone treatment
Chemotherapy

All prostate cancer treatments have associated side effects, so no one will force a patient into taking a particular therapy. The best course of action will be advised by the doctor, but ultimately the decision to have or not to have treatment is the patients.

Signs of a Mini Stroke - Do Not Ignore These Symptoms

If you are having a TIA or transient ischemic attack, the following symptoms may be noticed. You may not experience every symptom or you may experience others as well.

These are some good guidelines to go by:

Double vision - Similar to a double exposure on camera film or you may see "trails" from movement

Dizziness - The room or everything around you starts to spin. You may feel nauseous.

Sudden severe headache

Weakness- Suddenly you are unable to lift or maybe even move.

Speech Problems - You might think you are talking but nothing is coming out or you may not be coherent.

Confusion - Everything may seem out of kilter. Time and space becomes a jumble. Nothing being said to you makes any sense

Sudden forgetfulness- Everybody does this sometimes, but if you forget what you are doing and are surprised about your current location/activity/surroundings, this could be a sign of a TIA.

The symptoms of a mini stroke only last for a few minutes. If it continues or the symptoms are more severe, you may be having a massive stroke. Sometimes a mini stroke can result in unconsciousness but a massive stroke almost always does. If you have been told you are at risk for stroke, be sure your loved ones know the signs to look for as you may not be able to tell them even if you remain awake. In fact, it is more dangerous if you are awake and unable to tell anyone. Unconsciousness is usually obvious to those around you whereas silence or dizziness may not be.

Whether you experience a mini stroke or a massive one, it is imperative that you get to a hospital immediately. A mini stroke can lead to a massive stroke if you are not treated promptly.

Aids and Symptoms

I would like to make it clear that AIDS begins by a HIV infection. When people are infected with HIV, they do not have any symptoms for many years. (could take 10 years or more)

During that period, HIV develops to become AIDS, and infected people can transmit the virus to others. This is the most dangerous point about AIDS or HIV.

Because a HIV-infected person may seem well-looking, while he is actively transmitting virus to other people.

If HIV is not treated or detected, it will rapidly develop and the infected immune system will weaken, at the latest stage it is called AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome).

Symptoms of AIDS

As I said, symptoms will only occur if HIV is developed into AIDS and the symptoms of AIDS are a result of series of infections called opportunistic infections that do not normally develop in humans with healthy immune.

Why they are called opportunistic infections? Because they do not happen to people with healthy immune. But since AIDS destroys the immune system, they will occur in infected people.

What are common symptoms with AIDS infected people?
They are fevers, sweats, weakness, weight loss, and a series of "rare" infections and cancers.

I will probably discuss these infections later in detail. But I just wanted to make it clear to you about the difference between AIDS and HIV, and when exactly symptoms occur.

In a later stage, aids causes rare cancers, that normally won't affect a healthy immune. Eventually, the patient dies after one of these opportunistic infections.

A Lupus Symptom Can Vary A Lot From Person To Person

Lupus is an autoimmune disease, and the symptoms vary a lot from person to person. Lupus is an inflammatory state of the body, and that is usually how the symptoms come across. It can be a bit troublesome to diagnose since the symptoms can be so different. You may think you are suffering from many different diseases before you realize it's lupus. You can have swelling in knees, joints and ligaments. You can have chest pain and trouble breathing. Kidney problems are common, and so is skin rash and redness. Beside this you can feel dizzy or have fatigue that you can't really explain. To learn about this disease, you should read about it as much as you can. There are a lot of information on the internet, for research on the symptoms you are suffering from.

So, how can you find out if it's lupus you are suffering from?

A physician usually have to take many steps to get you properly diagnosed. He will have examine your medical history, to see if you have been suffering from the symptoms for long. He will have to check you for rashes and inflammatory areas on the body. And the most important, take blood and urine tests to see of your immune system is too active. A biopsy can also be done. That means that tissue is taken surgically and examined with tests, and that way they can see of there is a autoimmune disease in your skin.

Anyone can get sick from lupus. There are no ethical or biological reasons for getting it. There are almost two million people suffering from diagnosed lupus in the US today. Probably a lot more than that too, because many suffer from it without knowing it. Today there is no permanent cure, but there are many ways to treat the symptoms, to improve your life quality and energy level.

Allergy Asthma

Of all the diseases related to the respiratory system, asthma allergy is the most prevalent. This condition is usually visible in children and young adults, but the process may progress throughout their lives. Asthma allergy is a lung disease characterized by difficulty in breathing, wheezing, coughing, and the increase in production of mucus during an attack. The symptoms may bring simple discomfort or they may eventually lead to death, depending on the number allergens that affect the patient, causing blockages in the airways.

Cause of Asthma Allergies

The cause of asthma allergy is similar to the causes of an allergic reaction in a person. Allergens include dust, chemicals, scents, odors and changes in temperature. The actual reactions vary from patient to patient. In some cases of asthma allergy, symptoms are triggered by exercise or the emotional state of a person. These symptoms are quite unique.

Smoke is the most recognized cause of allergy asthma, especially for children. Statistics show that a ratio of eight out of 10 children are at risk of developing asthmatic conditions when exposed to smoke. It is believed that as the city becomes more industrialized, people may develop symptoms that are similar to asthma.

Risk Factors

Asthma allergy is not distinct to certain types of people. Anyone of any age, race, weight, height or gender is at risk of acquiring the disease. People who are involved in industries that deal with heavy emissions are at a higher risk of developing asthma.

It is also believed that asthma allergy is a hereditary disorder. A person who has a history of asthma allergy in the family is also at risk.

Treatments

Treatment starts with managing asthma attacks. To do this, a person needs to stay away from allergens that trigger asthma allergy. There are also medicines that can be prescribed by a physician to alleviate some symptoms.
